Azerbaijan to hold film event in South Korea
The Korea Foundation (KF) will hold a film event dedicated to Azerbaijan at the Miro Space in Seoul on Oct.15-17. According to the organization, the 2015 Azerbaijan Film Festival, co-hosted with the Azerbaijan-Korean Cultural Exchange Association and the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation, will introduce six Azerbaijan films that are not well known in Korea but were nominated for international film festivals. Azerbaijan film maker Ilgar Najaf, who produced “Buta” (2011), will come to Korea and meet the audience on Oct. 18. Other movies include “Atress” (2011), “The Cloth Peddler” (1945), “Hostage” (2005) and “Down the River” (2014). For more information, visit www.kf.or.kr. Azerbaijan sends “Pomegranate Orchard” to Oscar
By Laman Ismayilova “Pomegranate Orchard” movie by Ilgar Najaf has been selected as Azerbaijan’s official entry to the Oscars. The film was submitted for the 90th Academy Awards Oscar in the category “Best foreign language film”. The decision was announced following a meeting of relevant commission of the Azerbaijani Filmmakers Union on the nomination of the national film, Trend Life reported. “Pomegranate Orchard” features a story about an old man, who lives along with his grandson and daughter-in-law in the decrepit house amidst of the huge pomegranate garden. Buta is an ornament on carpets, fabrics, embroideries, frescoes. It had been known from times immemorial. It has polysemantic symbolics. It is interpreted as a bud, the Sun, a drop of water, a tongue-flame, an ovary of fruit and many other things. But mainly it symbolizes life. Pomegranate Orchard by Azerbaijani director wins 2nd place at international festival
Baku. 16 September. REPORT.AZ/ The film “Nar bağı” (Pomegranate Orchard), shot by Azerbaijani director Ilgar Najaf, was screened at the international festival. Report informs, screenshots of the movie held in Vlissingen, the Netherlands in “Film by the Sea” festival caused great interest of the audience and took second place in the festival. At present, film screening continues as part of the festival. The Azerbaijanis living in the Netherlands can watch the film. Notably, the Pomegranate Orchard is the only Azerbaijani film chosen for Oscar selections to be held in February 2018.
